Adler Secure Home Ice Advantage for the Playoffs |
|

Mannheim wins two of their last three games and secures home ice advantage for the playoffs along with a guaranteed spot in the quarter finals. On Tuesday, 28 February the Adler dominated the Hamburg Freezers in a lopsided 7:2 victory at home. The Adler were once again at home on Friday but continue to have problems with their consistency and delivered a less that optimal game against Cologne. Cologne was playing their third game in 72 hours and their second in 24 but they were in need of a win as they battled to take and hold a place in either the pre-playoffs or directly qualify for the quarter finals. Cologne was obviously the hungrier of the two teams on the ice as they defeated the Adler 5:2. The Adler played a solid first period but Cologne dominated the last half of the game. Mannheim was on the road on Sunday, 4 March in Krefeld. The Adler pulled out a 2:1 victory in regulation to guarantee themselves home ice advantage in the playoffs and a guaranteed spot in the quarter finals. Mannheim is in fourth place in the DEL rankings with 87 points, one point behind Wolfsburg, it is not possible for them to fall back to fifth but it is still mathematically possible for them to move up in the standings. There are two games remaining in the regular season for the top six teams and Mannheim is only three points out of first place. Berlin and Ingolstadt occupy the first and second places and both have 90 points.

Mannheim Loses to Berlin from the Penalty Bench |
|

Berlin shoot three power-play goals to beat Mannheim 4:2 (0:0, 2:2, 2:0). With the second loss in as many games the Adler come up with a zero point weekend and fall back to fourth place in the DEL rankings.
The first period was fast paced and it seemed like the Adler had more time in puck possession than Berlin but the shots on goal statistic favored Berlin 10:4. The second period was the best period for the Adler despite having five minor penalties. Mannheim was able to draw first blood on a short-handed breakaway from Denis Reul (25 minute, short-handed) but the Adler were unable to kill the rest of the penalty as Florian Bush tied the game less than a minute later (6 minute, man-advantage). Mike Glumac gave the Adler the lead again late in the period (35 minute) but Dimitrakos went to the box and 90 seconds later the score was tied again as Richard Regehr scored for Berlin on the power-play (36 minute, man-advantage). Shortly after that Sifers went to the box but Mannheim killed the penalty and the game went into the second break tied two all.
