Adler Fans Present DEL with Check to Pay Fine

25 January 2012

With the quote “I always accept money” a happy, DEL boss Gernot Tipcke came out of the DEL Offices, a few meters away from the Arena in Cologne. Representatives for all of the Adler fans, that during the two home-games against Krefeld and Berlin collected a total of 3,000 euro to pay the DEL fine, wanted to present a symbolic check to pay the monetary fine from the 30 December 2011 game against Ingolstadt. The away game in Cologne presented the opportunity for a short visit to the DEL to present the check and to shoot a few pictures.
The Adler Mannheim received a 3,000 euro fine 2,000 euro of it suspended) and Co-Trainer Mike Schmidt received a fine of 500 euro. Total 1,500 euro paid by the Adler fans. The Adler Mannheim will donate the exact same sum to the charity “Adler Helfen Menchen” (Adler Helping People). We would once again like to thank all fans that donated to this action and helped to reach this sum.

Cologne Haie vs. Adler Mannheim 4:3 (2:1, 1:2, 1:0)

Adler Lose to Cologne 3:4

By a score of 3:4 (1:2, 2:1, 0:1) the Adler lose to Cologne in front of a crowd of 13,795 fans in the Lanxess-Arena and ruin their chances of passing Ingolstadt and reassuming second place in the DEL rankings. The Haie led on goals from Akerman, Pettinger, and Tripp and with the opposing goal from Yanick Lehoux at the beginning of the second period by 3:1 but Mitchell and again Lehoux even the score before the end of the second period. Greg Claassen scored in the 42 minutes to 4:3 scoring the game winner for Cologne.

The Adler had no luck with the referees in the first period. First Chris Lee on the power play worked past the complete Haie defense, standing free in front of the Haie goal he was illegally interfered with (6 minute) but the duo in black and white let it go. That was followed by Yanick Lehoux sinking the puck in the Cologne goal (10 minute) but the referees saw a hook by Adler Capitan Marcus Kink and disallowed the goal.

The Adler were with the penalty double penalized, when in the resulting power play for Cologne, Haie Johan Akermann scored a slap-shot 1:0 for Cologne. When Matt Pettinger in the 15 minute scored the 2:0 the complete game was turned on its head. The Adler were the better and more active team in the first period and wanted to put the loss from last Friday in Ingolstadt behind them.

A good minute after the 0:2 Yanick Lehoux scored again, and this time there was nothing for the referees to complain about. His shot next to the left post counted – score 1:2 from side the Adler.

At the start of the second period, Haie Capitan John Tripp on the power play had a half empty Adler net in front of him but Jaime Sifers saved for the beaten Fred Brathwaite. Shortly thereafter Tripp did score 3:1 for Cologne. This was followed by power-plays for both teams. After the Adler withstood a strong Cologne power-play, Adam Mitchell scored during a Mannheim man-advantage 2:3 from Adler perspective. After a shot from the blue line Mitchell picked up the rebound and scored passed Haie keeper Ziffer.
